An Open Cover Letter

Hi,

Hi,

I’d like to introduce myself; what follows is an open cover letter, that I hope will draw your attention.

I’m a senior software engineer with 7+ years experience working professionally; I’m well known for my work with & on Node.js and React.js.

Presently I’m looking for my next role in a diverse and inclusive team, ideally located in Berlin – remote may be okay too!

I enjoy working on projects where I can have full-stack autonomy, and have a say on systems architecture (strong opinions, held somewhat loosely). I have a data driven approach to software engineering, and it’s not uncommon for me to be seen looking at metrics, logs, or flamegraphs to understand what a piece of software is doing.

I also enjoy taking this data driven approach to product development, presently I’m learning about things such as Apache Spark, Kafka, and machine learning, and have recently worked a lot with performance analysis, multiple databases (postgresql, mongodb, etc), GraphQL (an alternative to REST APIs which speeds up product development and stability), and service based architectures (generally partitioned at data/product verticals, rather than micro services

As for programming languages, I know JavaScript and Ruby really well, and can write programs in Java and Go (although I’m still learning those languages). I can also read a number of other programming languages.

In general, I find my role within companies gravitates towards that of a tech lead or architect, a large percentage of my job being communication with other developers and stakeholders.

I’ve a vast history of working for a multitude of startups, from infrastructure/platform as a service, to social networks, to music streaming services and advertisements coordination platforms. I’ve also worked successfully as a contractor for several years.

The sort of companies I’m most interested in working for are those with a large amount of data, an established diverse and inclusive team, in the industries of music, fashion, but I will consider other industries.

If any of the above sounds like someone you’d be interested in interviewing & hiring, you can find my CV at the following address, although, it is a little more focused on my work as a frontend engineer.
