Time and Place

Recently I’ve fallen completely in love with somewhere, somewhere where time is of no object. Somewhere where the clocks don’t tick, and you have all the time in the world.

This somewhere goes by the name of Ziferblat London.

On Tuesday (18th March), after visiting regularly for the past month and a bit, I decided to become a volunteer in the space, to help run it.

I tend to be there quite frequently, so, answering the door, showing people the space and handling payments is of no real hassle. Every evening when I leave Ziferblat, I come away with a sense of satisfaction that I’ve not found through any of my past jobs, perhaps because this is entirely unpaid. (Well, I’m not telling the truth entirely there, they do give me free time to spend in the space.)

Ziferblat perfectly fulfils my love for meeting new people, chatting with them, learning new things, and taking time to think and appreciate life.

On their Instagram, I was introduced as the hacker/engineer/fixer-upper in residence. So far, I’ve used some of my time to repair a (rumoured) nineteenth century rocking chair, started to clean and fix the espresso machine, and begun working on new money tracking and management.

We’re now running events in the space of an evening, we’ve had a games night, and recently showed a film. Hopefully I’ll see you by there some day soon, and remember: take your time!
